Photo GalleryAfter three days of the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championship at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio, the Fordham men's swimming team is in eighth place in the team competition.
St. Bonaventure remains on top of the leaderboard with 412 points, followed by Massachusetts with 366.5. George Mason is in third with 350 points, with La Salle (289.5), Saint Louis (271), Davidson (231), George Washington (201.5), and Fordham (187.5).
The first scoring event on day three was the 400 individual medley, where junior
Steve Sholdra rallied from behind in the final two strokes to capture the Atlantic 10 title in a school record time of 3:52.72. He broke his own record of 3:55.29, set earlier this year at the Bucknell Invitational. It is Sholdra's second career A-10 title after winning the 1650 freestyle as a freshman.
In addition to Sholdra,
Liam Semple and
Kevin Kosciuk qualified for the "B" final and put forth their efforts of the season. Semple was third in heat in 4:00.46 to earn 11
th overall, while Kosciuk was one place behind him in a time of 4:00.66.
J.T. Klimko Next was the 100 butterfly, where the Rams had four swimmers in the "B" final.
Joe Mercurio won the "B" final with a season-best time of 49.54 seconds with teammate
Patrick Militti right behind him with a time of 49.71 seconds.
Thomas Gillespie ended up seventh in the "B" final in 50.71 seconds, with
Brandon Strong taking eighth in 50.77 seconds.
In the 200 freestyle, Andrew Hendricksen was Fordham's top finisher, as he clocked in at 1:43.50, good for 29
th overall, while in the 100 breaststroke,
John Furlong just missed making the finals, clocking in at 57.65 seconds, which was 19
th overall.
The last of the individual swimming event on day three was the 100 backstroke, where
J.T. Klimko was in the "B" final. He finished fourth in the heat in a season-best time of 50.31 seconds.
The final event of the night was the 400 medley relay. Fordham's group of Klimko, Furlong, Mercurio, and Militti placed eighth in a season-best time of 3:22.18.
The Championship concludes on Saturday at 10:00 AM with preliminaries in 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, and 200 butterfly events, followed by the 1650 freestyle at 3:00 PM and the finals at 6:30 PM.
