Newport News, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its weekly awards for track & field on Tuesday, and Fordham freshman
Merissa Wright (Ocean Bluff, Mass.) was among the honorees as the league's women's rookie of the week. It is Wright's first career weekly accolade.
Wright registered an ECAC qualifying time of 1:15.87 in the 500 meter run at the Valentine's Day Classic in Boston, good for 17th overall.
Her big contribution of the weekend came in the 4x400 relay, where she joined
Danielle Rowe,
Kristen Stuart, and
Titi Fagade to set a new Fordham record of 3:47.40, finishing fourth overall, and posting the third-best time in the conference. The previous school record mark was 3:47.45, set last season.
Wright and the rest of the Fordham track & field team will next be in action on February 21
st, when the Rams begin competition at the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championship, held at URI's Mackal Fieldhouse in Kingston, Rhode Island.
