Box ScoreReading, Pa. (January 31, 2015) – The Fordham University women's tennis team built on the success of last week's strong showing at the NJIT Winter Invitational with a 4-3 win over Duquesne University at the Hillcrest Racquet Club on Saturday.
The Rams opened the match by winning the doubles point, taking all three doubles matches by identical 8-4 scores.
Elliesa Ball and
Sarah Ali teamed up to take first doubles from Kylie Isaacs and Sarah Shashura,
Estelle Wong and
Julie Leong won at second doubles over Alexa Miller and Zuzanna Stelmaszak and
Anika Novacek and
Carolina Sa were victorious over Megan Wasson and Chandler Consonery at third doubles.
In singles play, the Rams took three of the six matches to pull out the 4-3 win. Wong defeated Maddy Adams at third singles, 6-3, 7-6 (11-9),
Destiny Grunin upended Shashura in straight sets at fifth singles, 6-2 and 6-4, and Novacek took sixth singles from Consonery, 6-1 and 7-5.
The Rams return to action on February 12 as they take on St. John's at the National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
