CWPA Press ReleaseÂ
The Fordham Water Polo team (18-14, 5-7 CWPA) was announced as one of the four at-large bids at next weekend's CWPA Championship, held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass. on November 20-22. The Rams were named the highest of the four programs and the eighth seed in the tournament.
Fordham has been announced as the opponent for hosts and ninth-seeded MIT in the first contest of the weekend, on Saturday, November 20 at 10 a.m. Should the Rams defeat MIT, they will face top-seeded Northern Division champion Brown at 3:30 p.m. A win there would place Fordham in the semi-finals to face one of Johns Hopkins, Navy, or Washington & Jefferson College, with the winner moving to the championship match.
Â
Fordham are coming off a fifth place finish at the CWPA Northern Division this past weekend with a loss to fifth-seeded MIT before two bounce back 13-6 victories over Connecticut College and Iona. Junior
R.J. Simmons led the way with at least two goals in all three contests and nine overall, while senior
Andrew Gonzalez netted four and assisted on five others. The Fordham attack had 10 different scorers over the weekend.
Â
Sophomore
Alex Jahns made all three starts in net and blocked 10, nine, and eight shots in the three respective contests to reach the 270 mark on the season overall through 30 starts. That number is the third-most over the last 15 years, behind two stellar years by former All-American Honorable Mention
Noah LeBeau.
