James Mongey's 4-over-par 144 (72-72) helped the Fordham men's golf team to an eighth-place finish over the weekend at Yale's Macdonald Cup at the par-70 Yale Golf Course. The Rams shot an 18-over-par 298 in the first round, before carding an even better 14-over-par 294 in the final round to finish with a 592, 24 strokes behind Harvard, who won the 15-team event with an 8-over-par 568 (285-283).
Mongey set a new career low in the first round with the 2-over-par 72, before tying that in the final round. His two-round score of 144 also established a new career low for a two-round tournament and also produced a seventh-place tie on the individual leaderboard.
Sophomore
Matt Schiller bounced back over the weekend with a 6-over-par 146 (74-72) to finish in a tie for 17th place. Rounding out the scoring for Fordham was junior
Fernando Morett with a 151 (75-76), sophomore
Joseph Trim with a 153 (79-74) and freshman
Thomas Hayes with a 154 (77-77).
The Rams return to action Oct. 16-17 when they conclude the fall season at the Lehigh Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa.
