Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham men's tennis squad was busy Sunday as they helped out at the 11th Annual 5K Lindsey Run/Walk that helps raise funds for PEACE OUTside Campus - The Lindsey M. Bonistall Foundation. The team helped with registering participants, setting up breakfast tables, organizing gift bags, and cleaning up after the run.
PEACE OUTside Campus, The Lindsey M. Bonistall Foundation is dedicated to promoting peaceful and safe living environments in college communities. Their goal is to empower students and their families to be proactive in safeguarding themselves against crime.
Through the funds raised at events like the 5L run/walk, POC has been able to provide community outreach programs to high schools and colleges. Teens 'N Transition (TNT) has been presented to 10,000+ high school students to help better prepare them for the safe transition to college. Identify The Risk (ITR) informs parents about the risks and safety issues that their child could face while away at college.
The first Lindsey Run/Walk was held several months after the violent crime that took Lindsey's life. It consisted largely of family and friends who came together to celebrate Lindsey's memory and kick off the Foundation that would bear her name. Since its inception, the event has grown dramatically and last year drew close to 1,000 participants. Hundreds more donated their time and professional services to remember Lindsey and support the mission of this foundation.
