Box Score East Orange, N.J. – The Fordham women's tennis team had its first dual match of the season and the Rams came out on top, defeating Seton Hall, 6-1, on Saturday.
The Rams opened play by taking the doubles points as
Mayu Sato and
Alexis Zobeideh defeated Luize Strike and Hannah Liljekvist at first doubles and
Estelle Wong and
Hannah Drayton bested Katie Kim and Isabell Klingert at the third spot, 6-3.
Fordham then took five of the six singles matches, led by Sato at first singles, who upended Liljekvist in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, at first singles.
Estelle Wong defeated Strike at second singles, winning the first set, 6-4, before dropping the second, 7-5, but came back to win the third set, 6-2.
Drayton and
Destiny Grunin won in straight sets at third and fifth singles, respectively, with Drayton winning 6-1, 6-3 over Thandy Kangwa and Grunin taking a 6-2, 6-2 decision from Klingert.
Gianna Insogna provided the other point for the Rams, defeating Julia Keenan at sixth singles 7-6 (4), 3-6, 10-4.
The Rams return to action on Monday, October 19, as they travel to Rutgers for a 2:00 p.m. match at the East Brunswick Tennis Center.
