NFCA Division I Scholar-AthletesLOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced that 5,493 softball players across seven membership divisions earned NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2014-15 academic year.
NCAA Division I, with 1,554 honorees, had the most student-athletes with a 3.5 grade-point average or higher. Out of that group, the Fordham softball program saw six of its student-athletes achieve this feat:
Michele Daubman,
Kayla Lombardo,
Serena Moroukian,
Brianna Turgeon (2015 graduates), senior
Allie Bradian and team manager Kayla Robinson.
This is the third straight year Daubman, Lombardo and Moroukian have earned this honor, while Turgeon collects her second straight.
As a program, Fordham ranked 30th out of all Division I programs with a 3.412 grade-point average.
Daubman, who was nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year back in the spring, was the 2015 Valedictorian of Fordham's Gabelli School of Business (finance major), a Third Team CoSIDA Academic All-America® in 2015, a four-time member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, a three-time Atlantic 10 All-Academic selection, and a three-time member of the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.
Lombardo graduated with a 3.79 grade-point average as a communication & media studies major. She was voted a two-time Atlantic 10 All-Academic selection and was named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll all four years, while earning Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District Team honors as a junior in 2014.
Moroukian graduated with a 3.58 grade-point average in finance and was also a member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. Turgeon, a member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll as well, graduated with a 3.64 grade-point average in business administration.
Bradian currently has a 3.84 grade-point average in biological sciences and is a member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. Robinson has a 3.63 grade-point average as a political science major.
