Photo GalleryThe Fordham baseball team hosted its annual Alumni on Saturday afternoon at Houlihan Park, as over 30 former players took on the current Rams in a seven-inning exhibition. The Alumni would hang around through five innings, but eventually succumb to the current Rams, 6-1.
The Alumni got on the board right away in the top of first inning, courtesy of some of the oldest players in attendance. Joe Pellechi ('68) and Len Masucci ('66) both drew walks to open the first, and moved up a base on a ground out. Brian Kownacki then plated Pellechi with an RBI-ground out for a 1-0 lead.
Alum pitcher Joseph Charest kept the current Rams in check, throwing three scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
Craig Tscherednikov kept the shutout intact with two strikeouts in the fourth, while Bobby DiNardo made a nice catch in foul territory against the fence to end the frame.
The current Rams finally broke through in the fifth with a pair of runs off Tscherednikov, getting runs on a fielder's choice and a wild pitch.
The alumni tried to get back into the game in the top of the sixth, as Ryan Maghini singled, while DiNardo connected on his second hit of the game to left center. However, DiNardo was thrown out at second trying to stretch the single into a double.
The current Rams added some insurance in the bottom of the sixth, scoring four times for a 6-1 lead, highlighted by a two-run single by
Jason Lundy.
David Manasek then finished out the game with a scoreless seventh to give the current Rams the win. Reiss Knehr (2 IP), Ryan Remo (2 IP),
Moshup Galbraith (1 IP), and Ryan Davis (1 IP) also pitched for the Rams.
Besides DiNardo and Maghini, the alumni also got hits from Jordan Lert and Mike Mauri.
