After a split of matches on Saturday, the Fordham water polo team dominated all facets of the game on Sunday at the Navy Invitational, posting a 6-4 win over Washington & Jefferson and a 27-5 victory against Salem International.

With the two wins, Fordham opens the season at 3-1.

In the opening match on Sunday, the Fordham defense was in lockdown mode, allowing just one goal to Washington & Jefferson in the first half, while offensively connecting on five goals. The Presidents would score three times in the second half but an insurance goal by Fordham gave the Rams a 6-4 win.

For Fordham,
Bobby Wurtz and
Andrew Gonzalez each scored twice, while
Patrick Reyes and
R.J. Simmons notched the other two tallies. In net,
Noah LeBeau had 13 stops in the win.

The second match of the day saw the Rams dominate Salem International, 27-5, as 11 different Rams found the back of the net. It was the most goals scored by Fordham since a 24-goal outburst against Connecticut College on October 10, 2010.

Cameron Shewchuck led the way with six goals, while
Eric Minowitz had four markers. Wurtz,
Ethan Vandeventer, and
Mike Hay each had three goals with Simmons and
Peter Bergum having two goals apiece. David DeFontes, Reyes,
Landon Kern, and
Jacob Alexander rounded out the scoring with one goal each.

In net, LeBeau played the first half, making four saves, while
Patrick Harrigan played a quarter and a half, making eight stops.Â
Bryce Charles finished out the final half of the fourth quarter with four saves.

The Rams will next be in action on Saturday, September 13
th, as the Rams start play at the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa. The Rams take on George Washington and the Univ. of Toronto on Saturday, while meeting Washington & Jefferson and Bucknell on Sunday, September 14
th.
