BRONX, N.Y.- After completing one of the most impressive individual careers in Fordham Women's Basketball history this past spring,
Erin Rooney (Christchurch, New Zealand/Marian/Monmouth) has signed on to play professional ball with Arras Pays d'Artois Basket Féminin, a member of the Ligue Féminine de Basketball in France.
Rooney is the first Fordham women's player since Lisa Carrol in 2007 to sign a professional contract.
Fordham Head Coach
Stephanie Gaitley attributed Rooney's success to her unparalleled work ethic.
"We are really excited for Erin to play for one of the top programs in France," Gaitley said. "The opportunity is a direct result of all of Erin's hard work. She left her mark on Fordham basketball and I am confident she will do the same in the professional ranks."
In 2014, Rooney led the Rams to their first Atlantic 10 title, sending Fordham to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1994. In doing so, the Christchurch, New Zealand, native topped the team in nearly every major statistical category. She averaged 17.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game, earning both First Team All-Conference honors and First Team All-Metropolitan honors for the second straight season.
Rooney finished the 2013-2014 campaign with 577 points, 240 rebounds and 170 assists, making her the first player in school history to record at least 500 points, 200 rebounds and 150 assists in the same season. Her 170 helpers were the third highest single-season total in program history, while her 577 points were good enough for eighth on the single-season list.
For her career, Rooney became the 16
th player in Fordham history to score 1,000 points, despite playing just two years in maroon and white.
