The defending Atlantic 10 women's basketball champion Fordham Rams got their final tune-up before the regular season opener next week against Iona, as the Rams defeated Holy Family University, 84-39, in an exhibition game at the Rose Hill Gym on Saturday.
The Rams saw plenty of good things in the game, as Fordham shot close to 50% from the field, 40% from three-point range, and held Holy Family to just 1-of-21 shooting in the second half.
Fordham also dominated in the paint, as well as on turnovers. The Rams outscored the Tigers, 44-8 in the paint, while converting 26 turnovers by Holy Family into 33 points.
The game was a single-digit affair for most of the first half with Fordham leading 23-16 with 5:45 left in the period. A quick 10-0 spurt by the Rams, which saw back-to-back three-pointers by
Samantha Clark, made it a 17-point game.
Fordham never looked back in the second half, as the team had six players with at least seven points in the game, led by freshman
Asnate Fomina's 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting. Freshman G'Mrice Davis also had a strong first showing with 13 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore
Alina Gjerkes seemed to find her shooting touch as well netting 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting to go with four rebounds and four assists. Junior
Samantha Clark was the final Ram in double figures with 10 points, five boards, and two blocks.
The Rams will now have their regular season opener on Friday, November 14
th, at 11:30 AM, as Fordham hosts Iona in a match-up of two NCAA teams from a year ago.
