Fordham’s Brett Biestek and Dan Light Named Academic All-District

Senior defensive lineman and senior tight end candidates for Academic All-America® honors

Bronx, N.Y. (November 6, 2014) - Fordham University senior defensive lineman Brett Biestek and senior tight end Dan Light were named First Team Capital One Academic All-District, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom it was announced today. They will now be placed on the national ballot for Capital One Academic All-America® consideration. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.
 
This marks the fourth straight year that a Fordham player has earned Capital One Academic All-District honors. Last fall, Biestek earned the honor and would go on to be named First Team Academic All-America®. In 2012, placekicker Patrick Murray and defensive back Brendan Melanophy received the accolade while Murray also was an honoree in 2010.

Through nine games this fall, Biestek, a Preseason All-Patriot League selection who was a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy®, has 36 total tackles, 27 solo, including 11.0 for loss and 7.0 sacks, both team highs. He is second in the Patriot League in tackles for loss/game (1.22) and third in the league and 28th in the NCAA FCS in sacks/game (0.78). He also has two forced fumble and three quarterback hurries.
 
In 45 career games, Biestek has 122 total tackles, 85 solo, including 31 for a loss and 15 sacks.
 
Light, a Preseason All-America and Preseason All-Patriot League selection, has started all nine games at tight end. He has 35 receptions for 307 yards with five touchdowns on the year, ranking fourth on the squad in receptions and receiving yards.
 
Over his career, Light has 169 receptions, fourth on the Fordham career reception list, for 1,516 yards, tenth on the career receiving yards list.
 
The #9 Rams return to action on Friday night November 7, as they travel to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, to face the Bucknell University Bison in a Patriot League matchup at 6:30 p.m. in game that will be televised live on the CBS Sports Network.
