Emily Tapio has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced Monday afternoon by the league.
A native of Brewster, N.Y., Tapio averaged 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.0 block per game while shooting 55.6 percent (14-of-24) from the field in a pair of home victories last week over Mount St. Mary's (61-37) and Hofstra (60-46). Tapio tied her career high in scoring versus Mount St. Mary's with 19 points and just missed a double-double with a game-high nine rebounds. She also knocked down a career-high nine field goals (on 15 attempts), tallied two blocks and two assists and tied a career high in steals with three. Tapio scored six of the first eight points for the Rams, who started the contest with an 8-0 lead and never looked back.
In the victory over Hofstra, Tapio followed up with a terrific all-around game with 14 points, a game-high eight rebounds, five assists and two steals. She scored eight of the Rams' points in a decisive 20-4 run (spanning both halves), which gave Fordham a 17-point second-half lead. Tapio leads the Rams with 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.25 blocks per game while shooting a team-best 55.6 percent (25-of-45) from the field.
Tapio was also named the
National Jesuit Player of the Week by the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight.The Rams return to the court Tuesday, Nov. 25 when they take on Delaware for a 7 p.m. contest in Newark, Del.
