Michael Marando Named Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week

Senior placekicker sets school career field goal mark

Patriot League Release

Bronx, N.Y. (November 24, 2014) – Fordham University senior placekicker Michael Marando was named the Corvias Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week, it was announced by the league today.

In a 42-31 loss at Army on Saturday,  Marando connected on a 40-yard field goal as well as converting all four of his PATs.  His field goal gave the Rams a 3-0 lead in the first quarter and was the 42nd of his career as he set the Fordham career field goal mark, surpassing Brian Colsant, who kicked 41 between 1998-2001.

Marando enters the postseason one field goal shy of the Patriot League record of 43 held by Lafayette's Davis Rodriguez (2007-10). The seven points in the game gave Marando 262 for his career and put him in sole possession of the Patriot League kick scoring record that was held at 255 by Lafayette's Jason McLaughlin (1991-94). His 262 career points ranks second all-time at Fordham, tops among kickers. Marando is named Corvias Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this year and fifth in his career.

On the year, Marando is 16-22 on field goals and 58-60 on PATs. He leads the Patriot League and is 13th in the NCAA FCS in field goals/game (1.33) and is second on the league and 16th in the NCAA FCS in scoring (8.8 ppg).

The Rams return to action on Saturday, November 29, as they host the Sacred Heart University Pioneers on Jack Coffey Field in the first round of the 2014 NCAA FCS Championship at 12:00 p.m.
