Team ScoresThe Fordham swimming & diving team began a three-day stay in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania on Friday, as the Rams compete in the Bucknell Invitational. After day one, the Fordham women are second out of eight teams with 275 points, while the men are seventh out of nine teams with 148 points.
The first night of finals began with the 200 freestyle relay. Fordham's "A" squad in the women's event placed fourth overall as
Shannon Lulley,
Megan Gray,
Megan Polaha, and
Chandler Lulley finished in a time of 1:35.25. In the men's event, Fordham's "A" team of
Thomas Shetler, Pat Militti,
Christopher Daniell, and
Joe Mercurio took seventh in 1:24.61.
In the 500 freestyle, the Rams had six swimmers in the final. For the women,
Megan Zarriello grabbed fourth overall in the "A" final in 4:56.87, while the trio of
Erin McBride (17
th – 5:00.86),
Kalena Laurent (18
th – 5:01.20), and
Natalie Malicki (19
th – 5:03.87) finished first, second, and third respectively in the "C" final. On the men's side,
Steve Sholdra snagged fourth in the "A" final in 4:29.85, after breaking his own school record in the preliminaries with a time of 4:29.50. His old record was 4:29.82, which was set his freshman season.
Miguel Mattox also scored 20th overall n the "C" final in 4:42.66.
The 200 individual medley was the next event, which saw seven Ram finalists, six of which were in the women's competition.
Kelly Carroll, Polaha, and
Morgan Fairclough were all in the "A" final, finishing third (2:04.72), fifth (2:05.69), and sixth (2:06.17), respectively.
Shannon Lulley won the "B" final to grab ninth overall in 2:06.11, with
Theresa Goehring winning the "C" final for 17
th place in 2:06.31.
Julia Day rounded out the women's finalist in 21
st place (2:10.59). The lone men's competitor in the final was
Chris Viera, who came in 23
rd place in 1:54.98.
Next up was the 50 freestyle event with three finalists for Fordham.
Shannon Lulley picked up her second race win, as she took the "B" final for ninth overall in 23.61 seconds. On the men's side, Mercurio finished fifth in the "A" final in 21.05 seconds, while Shetler won the "C final for 17
th in 21.24 seconds.
The final individual events were the men's three-meter dive and women's one-meter dive.
Hanul Moon was Fordham's top performer in 14
th place in the men's event scoring 199.55 for 14
th place, while
Hailey Cox had the top score in the women's event at 184.10 for 21
st.
The final event of the evening was the 400 medley relay. The Fordham "A" team of Fairclough, Carroll, Polaha, and
Chandler Lulley won the women's event with a time of 3:46.68, while the men squad of
J.T. Klimko, Sholdra, Mercurio, and
Liam Semple placed tenth in 3:28.78.
Day two of competition begins on Saturday at 10:00 AM with preliminary competition.
