Atlantic 10 Conference ReleaseThe Atlantic 10 Conference announced the major award winners and All-Conference teams for men's soccer on Wednesday. Among those honored, the Fordham Rams had three representatives on the All-Conference Teams.
Senior forward
Andres Penfold (Scarsdale, N.Y.) was named First Team All-Atlantic 10, while graduate student midfielder
Aleksandar Mastilovic (Griesheim, Germany) earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 accolades. Freshman forward
Jannik Loebe (Kierspe, Germany) was also selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team.
The three All-Conference selections are the most for the Rams since 2011. It is also the fourth straight season that a Fordham player has been named to the All-Rookie Team and the 11
th overall under head coach
Jim McElderry.
Penfold earned First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors after the leading the team with seven goals and 16 points this season. It is the most goals and points scored by a Ram since Brian Borrhello in 2002, when he notched 11 goals and 24 points.
Penfold found a knack for scoring in the clutch, as four of his seven goals this season were game-winning tallies, which ranks 19
th nationally. He also had two multi-goal games this season, the first Ram to accomplish that since Borrhello.
Mastilovic had to wait a month to debut for the Rams at the start of Atlantic 10 play, but he made the wait worthwhile. He earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors, after finishing as the team leader in assists with four in just eight games played. He also tallied 27 shots, which was second to only Penfold, while his four points tied him for second on the squad in scoring with Loebe and
Mike McNamara.
Loebe joins fellow teammates
Andrew Hickey and
Kyle Bitterman as Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team selections. He is one of three freshmen to appear in all 17 games this season, making 16 starts. He has two goals for four points, which is tied for second on the team in both categories.
Penfold, Mastilovic, Loebe and the rest of the Fordham men's soccer team will be in action on Thursday, November 13
th, as the Rams take on VCU at 8:00 PM in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship, which is being held at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond, Virginia.
