Bronx, NY (November 13, 2013) - Fordham University men's basketball head coach
Tom Pecora announced the signing of
Eric Paschall (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./St. Thomas More), the 2013 Westchester County "Mr. Basketball" honoree, to a National Letter of Intent for the 2014-2015 season.
"We are all thrilled to have Eric Paschall join the Fordham basketball family," said Pecora. "He is an important piece to the process of our future success. Eric will have an immediate impact on our program when he joins us next year."
A 6'6", 225-pound forward, Paschall is currently a senior at St. Thomas More Prep in Oakdale, Conn., after spending three years at Dobbs Ferry High School where he played for head coach Scott Patrillo.
As a junior at Dobbs Ferry in 2012-13, Paschall averaged 26.0 points, 11.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists to earn state Class B player of the year honors and led the Eagles into the Section 1 finals. He was named Westchester County's Mr. Basketball, becoming just the fourth junior to win the award, joining Elton Brand, Ben Gordon and Jabarie Hinds.
Paschall averaged 20 points and nine rebounds per game as a sophomore at Dobbs Ferry. He was named MVP of the 2012 Metro Classic, an annual all-star game featuring the top players from the city and the suburbs, in the summer following his sophomore year, scoring 35 points in the contest. Paschall also led his "The City" AAU program to a title at the July 15U championship in Little Rock, Ark., that summer.
"It feels good right now and I'm so happy to have signed with Fordham," said Eric Paschall. "It's a perfect situation for me as it's a great academic school that's close to home and I have a great relationship with the coaching staff."
"To sum up my feelings in one word it would be blessed," said Juan Paschall, Eric's father. "We are blessed to be joining the Fordham community and being a part of such a great university. If you asked me five years ago, I never thought anything like this would ever happen."
"A lot of schools where recruiting Eric but the biggest difference was the coaching staff at Fordham," continued Juan Paschall. "From head coach
Tom Pecora to assistant coaches
Tom Parrotta and David Duke, they all looked at my son as more than a basketball player and that meant a lot to us."
The Rams continue the 2013-14 season on Friday night, November 15, as they host the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks in the Rose Hill Gym at 7:00 p.m.
