Tom Courtney was by far the greatest trackman Fordham ever produced. He was on the two mile team at Fordham which set the World Record out in California in 1954. After graduation in 1955 he trained for and made the Olympic team. In 1956 at Melbourne, Australia, he took first in the 800 meter run, setting a World's Record in the process, and giving the United States a Gold Medal. He set many other World Records in 1956 and 1957 before retiring from competition. Later he served as assistant track coach at Harvard for one year before obtaining his M.B.A. from Harvard Business.
