Track & Field Runs Well at Lions Indoor Invitational

Rams Post Six Event Wins with Kyla Hill Winning Twice

New York, N.Y. – (January 12, 2024) – The Fordham track & field team got back to work on Friday, taking part in the TCNJ Lions Indoor Invitational, held at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York.
 
Though no team scoring was kept at the Invitational, the Rams had a very successful day, as Fordham won six events on the day, led by Kyla Hill taking first in both the 60- and 200-meter dashes.  She began by qualifying for the 60-meter dash final with a time of 7.74 seconds and then won the final by clocking in at 7.60 seconds.  Later in the day, Hill took first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.99 seconds.
 
Aside from Hill, Dillyn Green also had a pair of top ten finishes, placing fifth in the 200 meters (26.07) and tenth in the 60 meters (8.01).
 
Other women's event wins came in the mile run, 400 meters, and long jump.  Mary Kathryn Underwood grabbed first in the mile run at 5:06.91, while Alexandra Williams won the 400 meters in 1:00.63.  Then in the long jump, Leia Ruvo posted the top mark of 17' 8".  Additionally, Ruvo tied for fourth in the high jump, clearing 5' 1 ¾".
 
Underwood and Williams came back to the track for the 4x400 relay to complete the day with Molly Mulvaney and Megan McCann.  The group ended up third with a time of 4:07.22.
 
The Fordham women had plenty of top five finishes in the other events, beginning in the 60-meter hurdles, where Kylie Ritz (9.20) and Nicole Lytle (9.37) placed second and fifth, respectively, while McCann was second in the 800-meter run in 2:22.73.  In the 3,000-meter run, Meredith Gotzman and Caitrina Barton took second and third place, respectively in 10:08.61 and 10:19.53.  Over in the field events, Michaela Gier tied for fifth in the pole vault, clearing 10' 4" with Sarah Cooley finishing fourth in the shot put with a mark of 38' 4 ¾" and Alexandra Manetovic taking second in the triple jump at 36' 11". 
 
On the men's side, Fordham had one first place finish, which came from Rodolfo Sanchez in the 3,000-meter run.  He posted a winning time of 8:19.58, ahead of teammates Steven Zucca (8:22.47) and Nathan Bezuneh (8:30.81), who were second and third, respectively.
 
Like the women, the men also had a handful of top five performances, starting with Kevin Callaghan in the 400-meter dash, where he was second in 50.64.  Trevor Rinn also had a runner-up finish in the 800-meter run, clocking in at 1:57.09 with teammate Yariv Simhony in fourth at 2:02.35.
 
The Rams also had a pair of third place finishes in the 200-meter dash and the 4x400 relay.  In the 200 meters, Jabril Carter was third in a time of 22.53, while the team of Callaghan, Sam Freeman, Erik Brown, and Matthew Nurse were third in the 4x400 relay in 3:24.55.
 
In the field events, Michael Croke tied for fourth in the pole vault, clearing 14 1 ¼", while DaRon Elam grabbed fifth in the high jump, clearing 6' 3 ½".
 
Fordham is back in action on Friday, January 19th at the Ramapo College Season Opener, which will be held at the Armory Track & Field Center, beginning at 10:00 AM.
