Randall's Island, N.Y. – (April 8, 2022) – On the strength of seven individuals scoring on day one, the Fordham women's track & field team lead the team competition at the 2022 Metropolitan Championship, held at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island.
Fordham scored 52 points on day one, followed by Manhattan (34), St. John's (27.5), Rutgers (18), Hofstra (8), NJIT (8), NYU (6), Wagner (5), Fairleigh Dickinson (4), Columbia (3), LIU (3), St. Francis Brooklyn (1), and Saint Peter's (0.5).

The Rams started with an event win in the 10,000-meter run, as
Caroline McDonagh crossed the line first in 38:12.81, with
Alexandra Thomas in third (39:18.03) and
Nathania Tan in fourth (39:41.03).
Fordham then went 1-2 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with
Maddy Kopec taking first in 11:52.90, while
Clodagh McGroary was second in 12:03.94.
The highlights weren't finished as attention turned to the field events.
Casey Metzler started things in the hammer throw, by breaking her own school record on her second throw with a mark of 151' 2". However, just two throws later, teammate
Tiffany Hanna would best that mark with a new school record of 154' 5 ½". Hanna ended up scoring second in the event with Metzler in fourth place.
The last Fordham event was the pole vault, where
Tara Coyne and
Madeline Baize were 11
th and 13
th, respectively, as they both cleared 8' ½".
Day two of the Metropolitan Championship begins at 11:00 AM on Saturday.
