Men's IC4A University Division Championship Results The Fordham cross country team concluded its 2014 season on Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park, as the Rams were the host school for the 2014 ECAC/IC4A Cross Country Championship. Fordham ended the season on a high note as the men's squad defended their IC4A University title.
Overall, it is the men's fourth IC4A Championship, having captured the crown in 1989, 2006, and 2013.
The day opened with the men's and women's coaches races. In the women's race, Pittsburgh's Caroline Defrank won individual honors with a time of 19:37.8 over the 5K course. Fordham had four runners compete with Julia Champagne as the top finisher in ninth, as she clocked in at 20:38.5, followed by
Tara Cangialosi in tenth (20:39.6),
Melanie Notarstefano in 12
th (20:44.1), and
Josephine Jacob-Dolan in 22
nd (21:24.6).
In the men's event, Princeton's Eddie Owens came away in first place with a time of 25:29.9 over the 8K course. There were no Fordham runners in this race.
Next came the Championship events for both the men and women. The Columbia men just edged out Princeton for the IC4A Championship with a score of 65 points to Princeton's 72. Georgetown placed third with 86 points. Individually, Princeton's Michael Sublette captured medalist honors with a frist place time of 24:57.0.
On the women's side, Columbia won the ECAC Championship with a score of 49 points, over Villanova (61) and Princeton (89). Villanova did get the individual winner, as Stephanie Schappert crossed the line first in 17:42.4.
The day wrapped up with the University Division Championship events. First up was the women's ECAC University Division Championship, where Sacred Heart with 101 points edged both Holy Cross (107) and Monmouth (111) for the team title. Fordham placed seventh in the team standings with a score of 206 points.
Individually, Marist's Michelle Gaye set the pace with a first place time of 18:09.7. For Fordham,
Brianna Tevnan finished in the top ten, taking eighth overall in 18:32.3, followed by
Ariana Bottalico in 31
st place (19:10.7),
Brynna Harum in 46
th (19:24.7),
Mara Lieberman in 60
th (19:33.5), and
Brianne Roche in 65
th (19:39.3).

Then in the final event of the day, Fordham defended its IC4A University Division Championship, scoring 52 points, followed by Marist (68) and Monmouth (78).
Junior
Mike Turi won the event with a time of 25:46.0, becoming the third Fordham winner in the last four years, joining
Jonathan Annelli (2013) and Julian Saad (2011). Right behind Turi for the Rams was
Quincy O'Connor in third (25:52.2), while
Thomas Slattery was fourth (25:54.4). Fordham's
Nik O'Brien in 15
th (26:22.6) and
Jake Duckworth in 29
th position (26:47.5) rounded out the Rams' scoring.
