Wayne McGuirt, who graduated from Fordham College at Rose Hill in 1965 with a degree in English, was a member of some of the top men's basketball teams in school history, helping the 1962-63 and 1964-65 teams to NIT appearances.

McGuirt, a point guard who was known for his competitive spirit, outstanding ball handling, and passing and shooting skills, began his Fordham career by leading the 1961-62 freshman team in assists, a team that compiled a 19-1 record.

McGuirt joined the varsity in 1962-63, leading the team in assists the next three seasons and serving as a team captain in 1963-64 and 1964-65, averaging 12.5 ppg as a junior, second to Hall of Famer John Manhardt, and 13.0 ppg as a senior in 1964-65, second best on team to Hall of Famer John Stevens. McGuirt was also a defensive force, usually assigned to guard a taller opponent but never backing down.

McGuirt capped his Fordham career by winning the Terence J. O'Donnell Award in 1964 as Fordham's top student-athlete.
