Eshmont had the best performance in the country during his sophomore year with 831 yards rushing and 7 touchdowns. At 165 pounds and 5 feet 10 inches tall, Len shares the distinction with Ed Danowski of having been the most dangerous, most colorful, most effective back Fordham ever had. Besides being a game-breaking runner, Len was a reliable pass defender, a hard tackler, and a fine punter. Len played briefly for the San Francisco Forty-Niners but, like many others of his time, his career was interrupted by World War II. The last time a Fordham crowd saw Len in action was in 1942 when he returned to Yankee Stadium with the North Carolina Pre-Flight eleven, coached by his old mentor, Jim Crowley.
