Joseph Boyle, a 1968 College of Business Administration graduate, was a three-year starter at right halfback and the first player from the downtown 302 Broadway campus for the Fordham football team.
In 1964, Boyle led the Fordham team in rushing yardage, when football returned to Fordham for the first time since 1954. In 1965, he led the team in rushing yardage and scoring, both on the ground and touchdown pass receptions. He was awarded the Madow Trophy for his stellar performance at the Fordham-NYU game. At the end of the season he also received the "Booster Club" award for his leadership and play on behalf of the Fordham football team. In 1966, Boyle was elected a tri-captain and again led the team in rushing yardage. Boyle's career as a running back was marked by his disdain for the sidelines as he would run north and south in search of an opponent to bowl over or the end zone. Boyle finished his career with 1,300 all-purpose yards.
