Playing on three of Fordham's more successful varsity football teams, John Janis worked his way through opposing defenses as a bruising halfback. A native of Lawrence, Massachusetts, he immediately showed off his talent as a member of the Ram freshman squad and then promise as a sophomore back. Ina n important match-up against Holy Cross in 1929, Janie caught a pass and ran untouched into the endzone for Fordham's only score in a 7-0 win. He scored another touchdown as a sophomore against Thiel, after getting the starting nod for the first time in his varsity career. As a senior, Janis scored a pair of touchdowns against Drake and one against West Liberty.
