Carroll graduated first in his class from Fordham Medical School in 1919, and served the University as team doctor for nearly 30 years. Appointed in the late 1920's to work with Fordham's athletic teams as well as the Jesuit Community, Carroll was a tremendous asset to Fordham University. He worked primarily with football, treating the "Seven Blocks of Granite" as well as the 1941 Cotton Bowl and 1942 Sugar Bowl teams. Dr. Carroll, who was called "Dr. Fordham", received the "Bene Merenti" medal from the school, and continued to work for Fordham University until a month before his death.
