Tynan was a four-time MET Champion, winning the 600 yard championship as a junior and a senior, the 1961 440 title, and the 1962 880 crown. He was a member of the IC4A one mile relay championship team, as well as the two mile relay team that missed a world record by 1.2 seconds in the 1962 New York Knights of Columbus games. Tynan also placed 4th in the 1962 IC4A 600 yard dash.
